SINGAPORE, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Singaporean stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 1.66 percent or 54.66 points to close at 3,340.00.

A total of 1.99 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.37 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.01 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 249 to 158.
