SINGAPORE, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.2 percent or 7.18 points to close at 3533.05.

A total of 2 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.42 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.06 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 257 to 162.
