KUWAIT CITY, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and his visiting Yemeni counterpart Abdulmalik Al-Mekhlafi on Tuesday reiterated the importance of peaceful solution to the Yemen crisis.

During the meeting they discussed the latest regional developments and international efforts to find a political solution to the Yemeni problem to ease the humanitarian sufferings and woes of the Yemeni people.

Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah reaffirmed Kuwait's firm position based on providing official and unofficial support to Yemen.

He said Kuwait, through its non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council (UNSC) in 2018-2019, would continue its efforts to help Yemen, to contribute to alleviating humanitarian woes, and to find a peaceful solution that could restore this Arab country's security and stability in line with the Gulf Initiative, its executive mechanism, National Dialogue and UNSC Resolution 2016.

The Yemeni minister said his country pins much hope on Kuwait's role during its non-permanent UNSC membership.

He voiced appreciation to Kuwait's contributions to Yemen, especially to the humanitarian situation, as well as its unwavering stance that calls for an end to bloodshed and violence in Yemen.

On June 2, 2017, the UN General Assembly elected Cote d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Kuwait, Poland and Peru as non-permanent members of the UNSC to serve a two-year term starting Jan. 1, 2018.
