SEOUL, May 28 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's Defense Ministry said Monday that it was prepared to hold talks on military affairs with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) "at any time."

Defense Ministry spokesperson Choi Hyun-soo told a regular press briefing that it was prepared to hold a general-level, inter-Korean meeting on military affairs at any time.

Choi said the military talks between general-level officials from the two Koreas would be pushed for after the high-level inter-Korean talks scheduled for June 1.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un held their surprise second summit Saturday on the DPRK side of the border village of Panmunjom.

Moon and Kim agreed to resume the high-level inter-Korean talks, which Pyongyang had called off citing the South-U.S. joint air drills, on June 1.

It would be followed by the general-level, inter-Korean meeting on military affairs to ease military tensions, and a Red Cross meeting to discuss the reunion of families separated across the border after the 1950-53 Korean War.

The Korean Peninsula remains technically in a state of war since the three-year fratricidal war ended with an armistice.
