ULAN BATOR, May 14 (Xinhua) -- The popular edition of "The Secret History of the Mongols," one of the oldest surviving Mongolian-language historical and literary works, is now published in seven languages.

With illustrations, the popular edition has been published in Mongolian, Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Hungarian, according to Discover the Secret History of the Mongols Foundation on Monday.

The foundation is also creating three series of animations based on the earliest Mongolian historical literature.

The main goals of the foundation's project is to spread the historical work to ordinary readers and to promote Mongolian culture around the world, said R. Battsengel, developer of the project and chairman of the foundation's board.

"The book has pictures illustrating each event. Compared to similar books, readers will find it easier to understand," he added.

"The Secret History of the Mongols" is also a main pillar of Mongolian studies. It is a chronicle of Mongolian history written sometime in the 13th century by an unknown author. It provides an account of Genghis Khan and the story of how the Mongol Empire was created.
